Gold City (Lithia Springs, GA)

What a pleasure it was to see Gold City in concert at the County Line Baptist Church!  I don’t get to see this group nearly as often as I would like and with Tim Riley traveling with them for the time being, it was even more of a privilege!  The group members are Chris Cooper (tenor), Bruce Taliaferro (lead), Danny Riley (baritone), and the legend, Tim Riley, singing bass.   Nothing was really mentioned about how long Tim would be traveling with them or whether they are close to finding a permanent bass singer.  Gold City has the knack of finding great talent, so I’m looking forward to seeing who will be the next person added to the group.

A ladies trio called Crystal Clear sang at the beginning of the service.  They have sung at the church before and were invited to open this concert.  They sang three songs and really did a fine job.

And then Gold City was introduced!    This was my first time to see tenor Chris Cooper in a full concert and I enjoyed hearing and watching him.  It was pretty obvious that Bruce Taliaferro was moving a little slower than usual and we were told later in the concert that he had a bit of abdominal surgery done during the latter part of the week.  He still did a great job on the lead.  And I think that Danny Riley just keeps on getting better and better.  But let me just say, that Tim Riley is THE MAN!!!  Here he is on “After a While”:

Here’s a list of most of the songs they sang:  (I think I’ve missed one or two!)

I was extremely pleased with the way Chris and Bruce handled the songs their predecessors had been so successful with like I’m Rich and Preach the Word.  Yes, Chris is very energetic on stage, but he appears very genuine to me and he spoke well when he introduced Preach the Word.  I don’t go to enough GC concerts to know if this was their normal set or whether they pulled in some of the older songs for Tim, but I really enjoyed this diverse song selection.  It was a great evening and I can’t wait to see them again!
