Booth Brothers/Triumphant Quartet (Rome, GA)

What do you get with you have the current winners of 11 Singing News Fan Awards on the same stage?  A great concert!!!   (Well, actually, I suppose it was really only the holders of 10 awards on stage since Jim Brady was on jury duty and Jonathan Martin filled in for him.)  The Booth Brothers and Triumphant Quartet appeared together in Rome, Georgia on Oct. 8, 2009.  This has become a yearly event and the auditorium was full of very appreciative fans!   You can tell that these groups really enjoy being on stage together.   My favorite song of the evening was one that they did together — Through It All:

The Booth Brothers (Michael Booth – tenor, Ronnie Booth – lead, and Jonathan Martin singing baritone tonight) were first on stage and they immediately introduced Jonathan and started their first song.   Believe it or not, Michael seemed to have even more energy than usual —- maybe it was because it was his birthday!  In fact, one of their biggest fans brought Michael some Thomas the Truck cupcakes that were presented to him during the concert. (If you’d like to see a video of that, you can see it on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/video/video.php?v=1248487817297&oid=2748485861 – you do have to be a member of Facebook to see it.)  Jonathan did a fine job especially considering he had about 2 days’ notice!  He has a nice voice, though not quite as good as Jim Brady!!  I hadn’t heard him before so I was glad to get to hear him.   In keeping with his challenge to artists during the Fan Awards presentation this year at NQC to incorporate the speaking of the Word and the gospel message and not just to sing about it, Michael read scripture twice during the concert.   And it was very effective.

I Have an Anchor
I’m the Lamb
Look For Me at Jesus’ Feet
Feelin’ Mighty Fine
He Came to Me — Jonathan has a very nice voice and did a good job on this song.
Love was in the Room
Sail On
Trading the Old Cross for a Crown
Crying in the Chapel – Ronnie sang this on the main stage at NQC this year.  It’s from a CD that Ronnie performed on named A Gospel Tribute to the King that features gospel songs that Elvis Presley sang.  If you don’t have this album, I very highly recommend it!!
Stand

Triumphant Quartet (David Sutt0n – tenor, Clayton Inman – lead, Scotty Inman – baritone,  Eric Bennett – bass, and Jeff Stice – pianist) came on next and gave a really solid performance, as always!  Eric Bennett won the 2009 Singing News Fan Award for Favorite Bass Singer and the other men are always in the final five for their singing parts, but it looks like the Booth Brothers may be hanging on to favorite tenor, lead, and baritone awards for a while!!!    Triumphant has that great male quartet blend and they shared some wonderful songs with us tonight – including their song-of-the-year nominated song, The Old White Flag!!  Here’s what they sang:

Amazed at the Change
Everyday
What a Wonderful Day
Don’t Let the Sandals Fool Ya
The Great I Am Still Is
One Drop of Blood
Forgave Me, Saved Me, Raised Me
Goodbye, World, Goodbye
Sunday Go to Meeting Medley – and yes, they did come off the stage for this one.  I’ve seen this sooooooo many times and I still love it!
The Old White Flag
Hallelujah Chorus – Jeff Stice.  This song makes it easy to see why Jeff Stice won the Favorite Artist award again this year!
When the Trumpet Sounds

The second portion of the program started out with the Booth Brothers singing He Saw It All with Eric Bennett joining them.  The rest of the time, both groups were on the stage – with a band made up of Ronnie, Jonathan, and Christian (Michael’s son) on guitars, Michael on the drums, David Sutton on harmonica, and Jeff Stice on the piano.   Here’s what they sang:

Long Black Train
Life’s Railway to Heaven
The Secret Place
He Loves Me
Through It All
I’ll Fly Away

I didn’t post many videos from the concert because I always have problems with the lighting at this venue and because I already have most of these songs on my youtube channel (www.youtube.com/dinanaSN) that you can search for and view if you’d like.

This was a long program, especially for a Thursday night when people have to go to work the next day, but with singing like that, who cares!!

This was an amazing concert! The first for me, but certainly not the last. I am forever hooked! This summer I saw a concert with Sugarland and Keith Urban and paid around $200.00. To think the Booth Brothers and The Triumphant Quartet cost me only $20.00 is unbelievable! What amazing talent with the Word of God taught. Everyone should come out and hear this talented group of men sing the Gospel!
